HTML Tidy

It's very easy to make mistakes when editing HTML documents. It's difficult to fix these mistakes automatically and sometimes even harder to tidy up sloppy editing. Dave Raggett's HTML Tidy utility has been designed to make these tasks quick and painless. HTML Tidy works great on the hard to read markup generated by specialized HTML editors and conversion tools and can help you identify where you need to pay further attention on making your pages more accessible to people with disabilities.

Spider Writer Integration

Because of HTML Tidy's excellent adherence to W3C standards, Spider Writer uses HTML Tidy as its engine for the Syntax Checker and Convert to XHTML commands. Spider Writer also allows you to create customized HTML Tidy scripts that can be run on your documents. To do this, open the HTML Tidy Settings window from the Options menu.

Using the HTML Tidy Settings Window

All of the HTML Tidy options that Spider Writer can use are clearly defined in the HTML Tidy Settings window. Once you configure the settings to your liking, you can execute the custom settings on the current document immediately by pressing the Run HTML Tidy Using the Above Settings button. You may want to save your settings before doing this since they will be lost when the window closes. To save your settings to a file, press the Save button. Make sure to save them in the directory in which you are initially placed! Settings can later be loaded by pressing the Load button.

Quickly Recalling Custom HTML Tidy Configuations

Once you save HTML Tidy configurations (see above), you can quickly recall and run them from the Tools menu. There is a sub-menu titled HTML Tidy Configurations. This sub-menu shows all of the saved configurations. To execute one, simply click on it.
